Susan O’Regan Appointed to Lead QEII National Trust Board

On Monday, 14 September 2026, Conservation Minister Tama Potaka announced the appointment of Susan O’Regan as the new Chair of the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) National Trust Board. The appointment marks a new chapter for the independent charitable trust, which facilitates the protection of significant open spaces on private land through legal covenants. Minister Potaka expressed confidence in O’Regan’s ability to guide the organisation, noting that she brings a wealth of experience in both local government and stakeholder management. “I believe Susan will provide sound leadership to the Board and enhance the Trust’s connections with the rural sector and Iwi,” Mr Potaka said. He further remarked that the Trust remains in “good hands” under her leadership. O’Regan, a Waikato dairy farmer with deep roots in the rural community, currently holds a Crown appointment to the Waikato River Authority. She also brings governance expertise from her time as the Mayor of Waipa District. These roles are expected to be pivotal as the Trust continues its mission to encourage private landowners to protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s biodiversity and unique landscapes for future generations. The Queen Elizabeth II National Trust plays a vital role in conservation by working alongside landowners to monitor and establish covenants. O’Regan steps into the role following the passing of the previous Chair, Alan Livingstone, in April.
