KiwiSaver Fintech Feijoa Named Finalist for 2026 Startup World Cup New Zealand Regional Final

A New Zealand fintech company that automates KiwiSaver contributions through everyday purchases has reached a major international milestone. Feijoa, a platform designed to simplify long-term saving, has been named a finalist for the 2026 Startup World Cup New Zealand regional final. The recognition follows the company's participation in Creative HQ’s Fintech Lab 2026, where it worked alongside 11 other emerging technology firms. Feijoa co-founder Mark White-Robinson explains that the platform operates by rounding up everyday transactions to the nearest dollar and directing the difference into a nominated KiwiSaver account. According to reporting from Waatea News on 26 August 2026, the tool is intended to remove the behavioral barriers to saving. By making contributions automatic, the app helps users build wealth in the background of their lives, a feature that particularly benefits self-employed contractors, part-time workers, and whānau looking to contribute to the future of tamariki and mokopuna. The company recently surpassed a milestone of $1 million actually added to New Zealanders’ KiwiSaver accounts. Data from the firm indicates that users contribute an average of $2.60 per day, which totals nearly $1,000 in additional annual contributions per person. Earlier this year, Feijoa reported that its collective user base was contributing at a rate equivalent to $2 million annually, highlighting the significant impact of small, compounding investments. Feijoa’s selection for the regional final comes after a successful run in the domestic innovation circuit. The startup previously won the Audience Choice award at the Kiwibank Start Up Pitch Breakfast and was named an innovation finalist in the INFINZ Awards. The winner of the upcoming New Zealand regional final will represent Aotearoa in the global Startup World Cup competition, which features an investment prize of US$1 million.
