ICT and Native Voice One Partner to Launch National Indigenous Radio News Program Across North America

A significant expansion in Indigenous media will begin this month as ICT (Indian Country Today) and Native Voice One (NV1) launch a new weekly national radio news program. The ICT Report, a half-hour broadcast, is scheduled to begin airing on affiliate stations starting 7 September 2026, targeting tribal and public radio stations across North America. The collaboration brings together ICT, the largest Indigenous-led nonprofit newsroom in the United States, and NV1, a premier distribution network that has served Native American radio for 20 years. The new program aims to deliver in-depth reporting and conversations on critical issues including sovereignty, health, education, and environmental stewardship, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives reach both rural tribal communities and urban centers. Katie Oyan, President and CEO of IndiJ Public Media and ICT, stated that the partnership represents an exciting new chapter for Indigenous journalism. Oyan noted that radio remains a vital source of information in many Native communities, particularly in areas where broadband access is limited. The initiative is designed to ensure more people can access independent journalism that reflects their own priorities and voices. Native Voice One Network Manager Bob Petersen highlighted the value of the partnership for both radio and digital broadcast. He noted that the ICT Report builds on NV1’s two-decade commitment to providing high-quality Indigenous content to listeners across North America, Guam, and Australia. The program will feature the week's top stories, interviews with tribal leaders, and coverage of innovation and resilience across Indian Country. As ICT celebrates 45 years of independent journalism, this move into weekly radio serves as an extension of its multimedia strategy. By utilising NV1’s extensive network, the ICT Report seeks to foster greater understanding of Indigenous life and values among audiences of all backgrounds while strengthening the connection between Indigenous communities across great distances.
