REGINA — The George Gordon First Nation (GGFN) is positioning itself at the forefront of the global digital economy through a significant partnership with Bell Canada. On Monday, 14 September 2026, details emerged regarding Bell’s plans to quadruple the scale and capacity of a massive artificial intelligence data centre currently under construction near Regina, bordering land owned by the First Nation. Chief Shawn Longman of the George Gordon First Nation described the expansion as a vital catalyst for broader community development. According to a report by CBC News, the Chief views the project as a means to generate essential revenue, employment, and economic capacity. The partnership is expected to provide the nation with the infrastructure needed to develop its own neighbouring land, including the installation of roads, water, sewage, and power systems. Beyond immediate economic gains, Chief Longman highlighted the potential for the project to revolutionise local access to essential services. He noted that the high-tech infrastructure could facilitate distance education and the establishment of satellite university campuses, allowing band members to pursue higher education while remaining on the reserve.
